Chao Bian (Illias) is a Research Associate (voluntary) at the Human Physiology and Sports Physiotherapy research group (MFYS). He was recently awarded his PhD title after a four-year (2022-2026) scholarship from the Chinese Scholarship Council. He transitioned to academia from a diverse background as a football player and a solar process engineer. Building upon his Master’s in Physical Education and Training from Shanghai University of Sport, he focuses on the methodology of mental fatigue, aiming to bridge the gap between laboratory findings and their application in real-world sports. Currently, he uses elite fencing as a model to translate theoretical insights into practical tools for athletes and coaches. He is doing his postdoctoral research, affiliated to the Division of Sports Science and Physical Education, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.
