Mental fatigue is a significant issue in daily life, with a major impact on both cognitive and physical performance. A recently published systematic review by the MFYS team (Habay et al., 2021; Sports Medicine) found that sport-specific psychomotor performance is also negatively affected by mental fatigue. These new insights are important for people working in sports domains where reaction time and accuracy play a key role (e.g. tennis, football, sprint events, golf, etc.). This scientific article also provides guidelines for further research, since the different underlying mechanisms of mental fatigue are still unclear.
