Study objective
We will ask you to collect all data and information necessary for the study - such as your demographic data (age, weight, height, gender) as well as data on your medical history, your medication use and your dependence on certain products (tobacco use, alcohol consumption) ... etc. This study includes 1 measurement moment. During the measurement moment, a unilateral balance task, a neurocognitive computer task and a dual task will be performed.
The results of the test battery will be determined from the score obtained on each individual task and will be preceded by a familiarisation moment. During this test battery, there will also be a video recording to detect any balance errors after testing. This video footage will be viewed and analysed solely by the researchers involved. The video footage will be kept until 01/07/2025 (in accordance with the end date of PhDs).
The first test is the "Unilateral Stance Test": it is performed by standing on 1 leg with your hands at your sides without letting the other foot touch the ground. This test takes about 5 minutes.
The second test is the "Stroop task": a test used in psychology that shows the interference that can occur in a task that requires selective attention. In this task, 4 words (red, yellow, green and blue) are displayed in different colours. If the word is coloured in yellow, green or blue, respond as quickly as possible to the colour of the word on the respective keys. If the word is coloured in red, you should ignore the colour of the word and respond to the meaning of the word. This task takes about 5 minutes. Again, the data will only be analysed and processed by the researchers involved (Prof Dr Bart Roelands, Prof Dr Bruno Tassignon, Prof Dr Jo Verschueren, Drs Alexandre Maricot, Emilie Schampeleer (student), Hortense Corluy (student), Balder Van Stichel (student), Ferre Vandeuren (student), prof. Dr Jan Cabri).
The last test is a combination of the previous 2 tests. During this dual task, the Stroop task is done on 1 leg. The procedures remain the same. The test here also takes 5 minutes.
For the measurements, please bring the following: sporty clothing (definitely shorts and indoor sports shoes). As this is a performance test, it is also important that you avoid alcohol, caffeine-containing drinks, performance-affecting medication and heavy physical exercise the day before and of the examination, as these factors may affect the final test performance. If these arrangements are not kept, you will not be able to participate in the study, and we will be forced to book another appointment so that you can participate in the experiment.
Are there any costs associated with participating in the study?
