At the VUB, the Anatomical Research Training and Education department plays a key role in providing high-quality training for medical professionals and in supporting innovative clinical and anatomical research. Thanks to targeted investments, ARTE can further strengthen this crucial contribution to education and science.
The research unit, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Steven Provyn, was also created to give answers to the many questions coming from clinicians through anatomy. Therefore, several research topics/lines exist: obesity, medical imaging, lymphology, morphology, neurology, osteo-archaeology, cancer research, and so on.
Almost all research within the unit is based on anatomy (dissections and interventions).
The research line on obesity and ergonomics is an exception. Obesity research mainly focuses on the effect of extreme weight loss on body composition, as well as changes in morphology, neurology, and biomechanics.
ARTE is located on our medical campus in Jette.
